Mission Trip Mexico 2013

Jul 29 2013

This summer the high schoolwent to Tijuana,  mexico tobuild a house for a family in need, but they did much more. He team planned meals, shopped for food, helped cook and clean, set up the campsite, learned (or taught) spanish, read the book of James, and planned our trip to the san diego zoo.   mexico mission photo

The first day of house building was spent preparing the work site and learning how to frame a basic wall. Day two was concrete pouring day and the foundation was created. This was the hardest day of physical labor. The third day we built the walls and made them stand. The two room house measured 11 feet by 22 feet. The last two days were spent raising the roof and preparing the exterior walls for stucco siding. The group that came in after we left put in the door and window, put on the stucco, and finished with adding the roofing. It was a long hard week and everyone did very well.   There are many stories to share, so please find one of the youth or leaders Mexico 2013   This summer the high schoolwent to Tijuana,  mexico tobuild a house for a family in need, but they did much more. They might tell you about David, our amazing intern provided to us by Amor who taught us everything we needed to know about building. You might hear about Oscar, the homeless man who was recently released from prision with a passion for God. Oscar also asked us to share his story and his appology to the American people for his crimes. You will also hear of Jose, his mother, brothers, sister, and nephews who helped us out at the work site.
A big thank you goes out to everyone in the church. Thank you for letting us borrow building or camping equipment. The mother ofthe houe hold says thank you and may God bless you and your families. She is looking forward to a warm home without a leaky roof.
