Music Programs

First United Methodist Church takes pride in having a thriving and diverse music program. We have an Adult Choir, Children’s Choirs and seasonal Bell Choir. Each group provides fellowship and support for the members as together they prepare to enhance our worship. Some participate in worship services each week, others for selected services. We also have the Amore Music Series with monthly organ concerts and host a wide variety of performances in our buildings.

The Amore Music Series

On April 11, 2010, we began a new music series at FUMC called The Amore Music Series, featuring Craig Hanson, our organist-in-residence, and other fine guest performers. These concerts serve as one of our church’s outreach efforts for the Corvallis community and as a showcase for our wonderful Noack tracker pipe organ.

The series consists of two parts: monthly noontime organ recitals and seasonal chamber music concerts. The noontime recitals take place on the third Wednesday of each month from 12:15 to 12:45 PM. They are performed by Craig Hanson as well as other guest artists. The chamber music concerts are held three or four times a year on Friday and Saturday evenings, as well as Sunday afternoons, and consist primarily of the organ in combination with other instruments.

Craig Hanson notes, “The third Wednesday organ concerts will provide an opportunity for anyone who wishes to momentarily escape the fast pace of modern life and be transported to another, more beautiful and spiritual time and place. We are very fortunate to have such a fine instrument in Corvallis, and it is my hope that more and more people will have the opportunity to be moved by its beauty.” All concerts are open to the general public and are free of charge, though donations to support the series are welcome.
