We can examine each of the four Natural Step Guiding Objectives and ask ourselves a question.
- Eliminate our contribution to systematic increases in concentrations of substances from the earth’s crust. “Can the earth replace what I take or use?”
- Eliminate our contribution to systematic increases in substances produced by society. “Do my actions poison the earth, water, air?”
- Eliminate our contribution to encroachment upon nature. “Am I interfering with the regenerative capacity of our ecosystem?”
- Remove barriers that undermine human ability to meet their needs worldwide. “Are the choices I make fair and equitable, making sure all humankind has enough?”
There are several ways to participate in Sustainability – on an individual level, through small group activities, through church education and workshop activities, as a member of the Sustainability/Natural Step Ministry Team, in community activities such as the Corvallis Sustainability Coalition, as a member of other church organizations, and more.
